ROUTE 66 THEATRE COMPANY presents
“It’s not fair. I did everything right.”
ALL AGES EVENT!
Route 66 Theatre Company and playwright Caitlin Parrish team up together to deliver another critically-acclaimed family drama that has literally become the must-see production of the fall.
Hazel survived a harrowing childhood with her older sister, Robin, who stepped up to take care of her at a very young age. When Robin announces that she and her husband are having a baby, the sisters’ relationship explodes in a storm of resentment, mistrust and a fear that history is doomed to repeat itself. From the writer/director team behind the hit A Twist of Water, THE DOWNPOUR tells a story of a family remade by terror and made again by love and bravery.
JUSTIN SAYS: I recruited Route 66 to do a stage reading of Caitlin Parrish’s A Twist Of Water, a poignant script about love and grief — as well as a most terrific love-letter to the Windy City — for the 2012 Chicago CouchCrash. That reading turned out to be a massive hit with the attendees, and I have long yearned for Route 66 to bring another one of Parrish’s works to life. Finally, a year after it was first announced, THE DOWNPOUR has made its world premiere — and it fucking delivers on all fronts. The story is moving and tense, the dialogue is crisp and the acting is superb. So far it has been getting rave reviews across the board, and every show has been selling out. I myself caught the first preview performance — the very first with an audience — and I was left in awe. I can only imagine how beautifully this production hums now that the cast is this far into their run.
