ALL AGES EVENT! $50 FOR A FULL DAY OF EPIC STORYTELLING!
After four long years of continuous crafting, workshopping and staging, The House Theatre of Chicago, the company behind such magnificent shows DEATH & HARRY HOUDINI, ROSE & THE RIME and THE NUTCRACKER, have finally mounted their newest fantasy epic THE HAMMER TRINITY in its entirety. Consisting of three separate plays amended into one seamless production, this is a full day of theater that features magicians, pirates, Vikings, grandmasters, gunslingers, industrialists, dragons and a legendary hammer to rule them all. This is by far some of the most ambitious storytelling you’ll ever witness on stage — seven acts over nine hours (with several intermissions and a long dinner break) — and friends of THE PENGUIN’S TUXEDO have been offered $50 discount tickets to see the magic, mystery and mythos unfold!

2:00 p.m. – PART 1: THE IRON STAG KING
Our unsuspecting hero, Casper Kent, is the son of a poor farmer. When an old storyteller reveals that Casper is the rightful heir to the throne of a kingdom long divided, his life is soon threatened from all sides. Young Casper must escape the Crownless, choose compatriots and question what is good and right for the land. Join him on his quest to lift the magical hammer that will unite or destroy them all.
Running Time: 2 hours and 20 minutes with one intermission
4:30 p.m. – SNACK BREAK
5:00 p.m. – PART 2: THE CROWNLESS KING
The Golden Age of the Iron Stag King has taken root, yet King Casper soon finds himself buffeted by forces on all sides. Seizing for control, Irek Obsidian cunningly lures Casper away from the throne. Our band of heroes ventures to the sea where the hooded pirate Davy Boone commands a fleet of Crownless rebels. All the while Hap the Golden wrests to maintain his hold over the royal tale. As storytellers Hap the Golden and Irek Obsidian each seek to impose their versions of the story, who will step forth to rule as the Crownless King?
Running Time: 2 hours with one intermission
7:00 p.m. – DINNER BREAK
8:00 p.m. – PART 3: THE EXCELSIOR KING
New Plymouth is thrust into civil war as the folk choose sides in the conflict between Hap the Golden and Irek Obsidian. With King Casper nowhere to be found, our remaining heroes have narrowly escaped the conflict in the capital but find themselves scattered and at cross-purposes. It is up to July of the Seven Foxes to speak a tale that can unite them again and save the Land from self-destruction. But another threat encroaches from The Glaze, a darkness more powerful than even Hap and Irek had anticipated. Will Kaelan Wayne and his war machine take advantage of the moment and strike an end to the storytelling forever?
Running Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes with two intermissions
JUSTIN SAYS: Pulling from Arthurian legend, Norse mythology and early American mythos, THE HAMMER TRINITY is a smartly-written and wildly ambitious fantasy epic that examines how the influence of a story can wield more power — or wreak more havoc — than any who might wear a crown. After all, what truly entitles a king to be king — his power or the widespread belief in it? What gives him the right to rule, even benevolently, over an entire kingdom? And why should those under his reign freely choose to bend their knee? The House strives to answer these questions by way of magic and machinations, political intrigue and philosophical debate, bullets and blades. If you’ve eagerly binge-watched complete seasons of Game of Thrones or the entirety of Lord of the Rings at any point this past decade, this epic is right up your alley.
And if you’re still not sold, this show also features a dragon voiced by a Pulitzer prize-winning Chicago playwright. So there.
